Cross-border Doctoral Meeting UPPA/UNIZAR / 22 to 24 October 2025

Objectives
This sixth edition of the UPPA-UNIZAR cross-border doctoral meeting will take place in Jaca (Spain) from 22 to 24 October 2025, with the aim of continuing the dynamic exchanges initiated during the five previous editions. Twenty PhD students from UPPA and twenty students from UNIZAR will participate in this event, as well as ten PhD students from the Public University of Navarre (UPNA), member of the UNITA alliance, who have been invited to participate.
During this new meeting, particular attention will be paid to the following points:
- Raising awareness of opportunities for cross-border collaboration within the framework of doctoral studies
- Promoting the European UNITA alliance, to which both universities belong, and the new opportunities for collaboration and exchange that it offers
- Training doctoral students in cross-border skills, particularly intercomprehension, a key element of the UNITA alliance that facilitates communication between researchers at both universities
- Providing training in entrepreneurship, which is very important for doctoral students in order to broaden their professional opportunities beyond the academic world
- Promote a cross-border infrastructure of global importance, the Canfranc Underground Laboratory
- Provide doctoral students from both universities with an international peer forum where they can disseminate their research, discover the research areas of both universities and seek synergies and collaborations.
Organisation
All activities will take place at the Residencia Universitaria de Jaca (Spain). In order to encourage exchanges between doctoral students from both universities, including those from third countries, presentation sessions were held in English.
As in previous editions, a varied programme of activities will combine conferences, round tables, workshops and presentations of doctoral students' theses, in the form of oral presentations and posters*, as well as a guided tour of the Canfranc Underground Laboratory.
*The prize for the best poster was awarded at the previous edition to a PhD student from UPPA.
The programme also includes opportunities for doctoral students to socialise and discover the local culture: visits to the Citadel of Jaca, the Cathedral and Museum of Romanesque Art, and a free evening on Thursday.
